Pregnancy After Uterine Artery Embolization For Symptomatic Fibroids

Abstract

SUMMARY


Objective: The purpose of this study was to report on
pregnancies and their outcome after uterine artery embolization for uterine fibroids.
Method and results: A retrospective analysis of all pregnancies after UAE, from 2007 to 2014, 207 patients (mean age 35 years; range, 26 - 45 years) with symptomatic uterine fibroids underwent uterine artery embolization, 32 patients want to achieve pregnancy. After mean 15 months follow up, 23 women reported 34 pregnancies (3 spontaneous abortions, and 6 elective terminations resulted), 25 live births, 5 babies were born
with low birth weights, 4 were born preterm, 5 babies were born with low birth weights, 1 pregnancies had abnormal placentation, 1 pregnancies had abnormal amniotic fluid. The time after uterine artery embolization have a pregnancy is 15 month (from 2 to 42 months). The mean size of tumor is 6.4cm (from 3 to 8cm) per 56 tumor with 84.9% intramural and 15.1% submucous.
Conclusion: Uterine artery embolization should be performed for women who want to preserve their fertility.
