Abstract

SUMMARY


Purpose: To evaluate intermediate-term results of prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Radiology department, Bach mai hospital.
Materials and methods: From February 2014 to April 2017, 126 patients were underwent treatment. Patients were evaluated at baseline and selected intervals (1, 12 and 18 month) for the following efficacy variables: International prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QoL) - related symptoms, peak urine flow rate (Qmax), post-void residual volume (PVR) and international index of erectile function - 5.
Results: Embolization was technically successful in 121 of 126 patients (96%). Clinical success was seen in 100% of patients, the IPSS, QoL, Qmax, PVR, IIEF - 6 index improvements at 18 months are respectively 15.5 points, 2.6 points, 61.2%, 45.5%, 32.5%,
5,9%. No major complications were reported.
Conclusions: The results from this clinical trial indicate that PAE offers a safe and efficacious treatment option to improve quality of life for men with BPH.
